Abortion by Pill to 10 weeks

The Abortion by Pill is available to women between five and ten weeks (70 days) from their last normal menstrual period (LMP), which is confirmed in our office by ultrasound.

The procedure for completing the abortion by pill is fairly simple.

The patient comes to our office for her first visit. Her appointment will include an ultrasound to confirm length of pregnancy and basic lab work. Our dedicated counseling staff and physician will explain the process step by step.

1st Step

The patient takes her first pill, Mifepristone, orally at our office.

At Home

In the privacy of her own home, the next day the patient will insert four tablets of Misoprostol between the cheek and gums of her mouth. Within the next few hours, the patient will experience bleeding and cramping that can range from light to heavy.

The experience can last up to several hours, so we ask that the patient make arrangements for childcare and schedule the day off from work.

Follow-Up

All patients should return to our Center for a follow-up visit within 3-14 days so that we can confirm that the process is complete.

» What’s the difference between a surgical abortion and abortion by pill? (comparison chart)

In October 2000, the FDA approved use of the drug Mifepristone (Mifeprex) for inducing abortion. Since that time, Presidential Women’s Center has been offering abortion by pill to our patients as a highly successful alternative to the surgical procedure.

The feedback we have received from the women choosing this option has been overwhelmingly positive. Although the abortion by pill is more involved and can be a lengthier process, patients choose this option because they feel it is more natural and appreciate that they are able to be in their own homes.

Some of the comments we have received from patients:

“It was easy and better being at home.”

“The cramping and bleeding only lasted a few hours.”

“Terrific experience, kind and educated staff with outstanding empathy and trustworthiness.”

“You were all so considerate and kind. Thank you for being so genuine. The facility is clean and comfortable.”

“I had less than period pain and it was easy.”

“I liked that you can do it in the privacy of your own home.”

“Experience was great; I felt cared for and informed.”

“I appreciated having the experience in my home with the support of my husband.”

“I was pleased with the care and the professionalism of the staff.”

“Everyone was caring, pleasant, experienced and comforting.”
